Hey all, After a week of repeatedly trying to get a hold of the rider we finally did get him to respond. He contacted us back via Facebook and funny enough the response came almost immediately after posting our statement on Facebook. We are getting the fork back for inspection. Also curiously one of the first things the rider asked about was if he could get sponsored. I'm believing this means he is OK with our quality.

SR Suntour has tried a number of ways to get a hold of the fork because like you say we all have seen some pretty crazy stuff over the years. After many days of emailing the guy who posted this and no answer SR Suntour has issued a press release and you can read it in the link below. Biggest take away I have from it is that SR Suntour has made 80 million forks to date and this has never happened before. http://www.srsuntour-cycling.com/dstore/news.html?PostingID=920&Category=product_news?PostingID=920&Category=product_news&sid=1

cyberhawk: thanks for the nice comments back. I do respect many people on Pinkbike and really enjoy good discussions. I think the forum conversations have improved over the years. The fork you would most likely see at an enduro event is the Durolux. If the air valve was at the bottom that was the Travel Adjust version of the Durolux TAD. The travel adjuster must be at the top of the fork so the only way for the air to go in is at the bottom. On the fixed travel version, Durolux RCA the air valve is at the top under a nice CNC top cap. Mike Levy reviewed that one. http://www.pinkbike.com/news/SR-Suntour-Durolux-RCA-Fork-Tested-2011.html There are new cartridge damper due out this season for the Durolux series (might be in stock in Europe already) called the RC2. This reduced weight by about 80 grams, has high and low speed damping. I've spent time testing it last fall and dig it. Bike magazine in Germany recently gave it pretty high marks. Check it all out here. http://www.srsuntour-cycling.com cheers

Lastly, I just checked up on the return rate we have on products coming into the US (where I work) and it is an astoundingly low rate of return for any industry. Also, it comes to mind that the fork tested by Pinkbike last year was one of the longest test periods/most ridden forks Mike Levy and crew have put into any fork and it exited at the end of the day with very high marks. Sorry for the long reply....it is just I care a lot and want people to be informed.

cyberhawk: I'll reiterate what I stated above, this is near to impossible for our steerer tube to fail in the way they are trying to show in the video. The forks have a flared edge to them on the bottom side of the steerer where it enters the crown. They cannot pull out like it did in the video. brett236....People do take risks like this for the sake of effect. This guy has 20,000 views on this site now and over 100,000 on others with this video. He made a dramatic video to shock people and make them want to watch it....mission accomplished. But at the same time he is doing this for the laughs and attention it is at the expense of a good company. SR Suntour sponsors riders (WC overall, 3 Gold and one Silver at World Champs), sponsor events and places, invests in product development, and have passionate people who love bikes and take their jobs very seriously helping to make all of this happen. Going out of his way to show our brands logo is when the joke went a little too far. Look I know there is a brand perception issue that people have. When you make a product range as broad as our that comes with the territory. We make forks that go on bikes at places like Walmart/CanadianTire. We also make stellar high end forks that went 1st and 2nd at Ft William 4X that retail as high as $1100 USD. We try to make the best fork possible no matter what the rider's budget is. The problem with some here for example on Pinkbike is that maybe they started out on one of our low end fork (NOT intended for dirt jump) then they start getting some skills get into riding seriously try it with one of those low end forks and thing ALL of our products are made like that. Then we get the snide remarks that are typically uninformed.

cyberhawk and brett236 just a couple of things to point out here (this is lengthy so I'll have to split up my response into a couple parts) The fork is a Duro not a Durolux, not that it alters the situation I'm just trying as best as possible to keep everyone honest to the facts. I am aware of brakeless trends in BMX and DJ. It is also convenient if staging something like this...that is all I was pointing out. I have coworkers in Europe who've tried repeatedly emailing the guy who made this video in both Polish his native language and in English. He is not responding back to us. We have made a big effort to find out if there really was any fault with the product. The lack of response leads us to believe it was staged. He's done this before.....This guy has made propped/fake event photos of component failures for humorous effect before. We found sequence photo he posted of a BMX rider where the wheel comes off the front fork and the guy rides away in a manual. The rider didn't just have their axle loosen up by accident it was done on purpose for dramatic effect and a laugh.

I work with SR Suntour. I have also been in the bike business for 20 years and have been riding mountain bikes (XC, AM, DJ, FR, & DH) for about 25 years. I've spent a considerable amount of time on the manufacturing side of the business as well. Based on that here are my observations. SR Suntour makes a very strong and durable DJ fork in the Duro DJ. It uses a reinforced steerer tube and forged crown. I've been in many factories and their construction techniques and QC are very good. If you make more suspension forks than all the other fork makers combined you are going to hear of more failures by simple arithmetic. Every frame, fork, stem, bar, etc...needs periodic inspection if ridden regularly in a harsh environment like dirt jumping. Parts today are made strong but there is a lifespan to everything. The construction method of the fork has a flared out portion of the steerer tube on the bottom side of the crown. It is very hard to understand how the steerer can pull through the crown unless this part was compromised prior to take off. Some have noted this might be staged. IF it was staged that might explain why the rider didn't have even a rear brake on the bike so that the bars could exit the scene freely / safely and he would know he wasn't going to get tangled up with them. IF this was done on purpose it is a shame to attack a company like that. I'm not making accusations here just pointing out some odd things noted. If the rider in the video has a legitimate warranty claim he is welcome to get a hold of SR Suntour all country contact info is at www.srsuntour-cycling.com.
